CO2

CO2 is a naturally occurring chemical compound composed of one carbon and two oxygen atoms. CO2 is a valuable co-product of ethanol production because of its various uses and applications:

• Dry ice: In its frozen form, CO2 is used to refrigerate meats and other food products.
• Food preservative: In its gaseous form, CO2 is sealed in packaging for consumables to reduce the presence of oxygen, which is an accelerant for food decay.
• Shielding gas: CO2 is an effective shielding gas used in arc welding that protects molten welds from harmful atmospheric gases.
• Beverage Carbonate: When dissolved in water, CO2 provides the "fizz" in carbonated beverages.
• Oil recovery tool: When injected into difficult or aging oilfields, CO2 can enhance oil recovery rates.
